Talking in L.A.
Talking in L.A. is a series of images captured in Bronson Canyon in Los Angeles––Hollywood, to be exact. The canyons are the rare destinations in L.A. where people enjoy walking and chatting, either with a friend or with strangers met on the path, as occurs in Central Park in New York or Hyde Park in London. The pace and the proximity to nature encourage intimacy, often rare in the typical coffee or lunch meeting. Much like connectedness in L.A.’s one-person-per-car-culture, the social vibrance of canyon hiking culture is not apparent in these images.
As I photograph the gold and green natural beauty that lies only minutes from city streets, hikers pass behind me, engrossed in conversation, bits of which are used to title the images.
How do I Get to the Hollywood Sign?
Of Course I Took the Meeting
The Plot is Contrived
This is my Last Chance to be Outside Today
I’m so Excited to See Her
I Saw a Huge Coyote Right on the Path
They Fired the Whole Art Department
I Liked Her First Book Better
She Dumped Me Right After We Signed the Lease
I’m Ready For Some Rain
Such a Great Dog
He Really Hurt My Feelings
Is She Okay?
He’s a Rescue
I Haven’t Watched it Yet
This is My Cardio Day
Tagging in the Canyon?
I Hope They’ll be Okay
I’ll Take You to the Airport
They Found it in the Ravine at the Entrance
